Ordering a new wheel and thinking you are looking for that extra edge, or just chasing a smooth feel? Let us help you. This service is available to customers who are buying a new wheel from us.
Our Race Prep is done in the the following way,
- Remove Axle and Bearings From Wheel
- Soak and Clean existing lubrication from wheel bearings
- Chemical flush to remove all excess cleaner and lubricant
- Application of new grease, oil or lubricant
- Wheel interfaces greased
- Bearings re-installed with axle
There are a few options to choose from, and we typically recommend chatting with us before you make a decision as each has benefits over the others. Machine Oil is the fastest option however it is more prone to wear and require re-application every few months to ensure proper lubrication. Our High Tack Race Oil is a specialist blend with a viscosity modifier to ensure the oil remains in contact under extreme load, it's less prone to wear and is our favourite option. The Phil Wood Tenacious Oil is a very similar blend to our High Tack Race Oil, and is made in the USA by Phil Wood. The Lightweight Grease is our second favourite option as it lubricates best and requires much less maintenance than other options. Lastly, our Premium grease is corrosion resistant grease with amazing lubrication properties and low resistance. This solution is great for wheels used on the outdoor track or when you cannot regularly service.

Seal removal and seal trimming is a practice we offer. Some factory bearings have heavy 2RS (Two Rubber Seals) which make contact on the inner and outer race. For pure velodrome usage, we can trim the inner seal to remove contact, reducing friction whilst still providing 90% coverage from the outside elements. We recommend the second option if you're chasing longevity and protection. If you want to keep it stock, select "No modification".
- Remove All Seals
- Remove Inner Bearing Seal and Trim Outer Bearing Seal
- Trim Both Seals
- No modification
Whilst many manufacturers would argue that this service is not essential, one thing that they miss is that the needs of each rider varies greatly, and if you find yourself chasing 0.01, maybe this is a solution for you.
