Team & Support Mechanic

WE LOVE SUPPORTING TEAMS, PEOPLE & EVENTS

Our background in premium workshop servicing has led to working as a support mechanic with some amazing organisations and events. Some of our key events being the Smiling for Smiddy Tour in NZ, BOQ Cycle Tour in QLD, along with some 1-day local events in Brisbane.

From here we formed a name in the Track Cycling space, landing our first opportunity with Cycling NZ Paracycling at the World Cup in Brisbane, then to working with the Royal Dutch Cycling Union in Jakarta at the 2023, Then to Bordeaux for AusCycling to support the Paracycling Team in the lead-up to the “Super Worlds” hosted in Glasgow. Along with these 3 events, we have been lucky to assist a few states at the AusCycling Track Nationals during some high intensity periods mid event, to working at the Oceanic Track Cycling Championships at the Anna Meares Velodrome with the Australia Cycling Team. We are familiar with everything from everyday commuter bikes, all the way up to the Olympic Tech used by the world’s best.

Teams require mechanics who understand the UCI rules and guidelines, who can work under pressure, and most importantly who have a process in place to ensure rider safety and rider performance during their events.

In 2016, Matt began his official journey on the tools, guided by his old boss Sammy, during his time living in the Netherlands. From there the passion grew and opportunities presented themselves, working under various mechanics in Brisbane, up until landing a lead mechanic job at a Trek store. Fast-forward a few years and GEAR Shop Brisbane re-opens, with Kieran as the lead-mechanic working under Matt's direction.

Road, Track, Para-Track and Para-Road are Matt’s primary focus, and where he wishes to focus his attention. This includes in support events too. It’s not that he doesn’t love other things, but it allows him to further master his craft and remain sharp, up-to-date, and connected to the modern tech you see on bikes.

He’s actively looking for more work in this area, as it’s a key interest and something which brings him joy.
