Founded in 1911, Honjo Cycle Works Japan begun as a frame building workshop. Their flagship model, Presto, is their model of NJS Certified frameset. In 1948 Japan formed the Keirin racing as a means of recovering from the post war depression. The intention was to use only parts sourced and manufactured in Japan, referred to as NJS Certified.
